HM3 Poison Dart Frog
HM3 Poison Dart Frog is a limited edition of 10 pieces inspired by the
spectacular yellow-banded poison dart frog.
The deadly potential of the poison dart frog is camouflaged in the
tropical rainforest by this amphibian’s exotically-patterned black and yellow
skin. Similarly, the high-tech zirconium case of Poison Dart Frog is disguised
by a sleek, black layer of PVD. The black case contrasts spectacularly with the
animated rotor – framed by an over-sized date wheel – on top of the Jean-Marc
Wiederrecht-designed complication.
The protruding eyes of real-life, amphibious frogs enable them to see in
many directions without having to turn their head. The bulbous hour and minute domes
of Poison Dart Frog create a similar effect, though in this case it means the
wearer can easily read the time from a variety of angles without having to turn
his or her wrist.

The hour and minute domes had to be meticulously machined from solid
aluminium, chosen for its optimal strength to weight ratio – the domes weigh
just over 0.5g. First, they are milled from the outside and then the inside to
arrive at a paper-thin wall thickness of just 0.28mm, ensuring their energy
requirements are kept to an absolute minimum.
Protecting the hour and minute domes are two semi-spherical sapphire
crystal domes that had to be shaped and polished with utmost precision as the
slightest imperfection in the sapphire could produce a disconcerting
magnification effect.

HM3 Poison Dart Frog may portray the time and date playfully, but there
is nothing but serious attention to detail regarding the fine hand-finishing of
the highly-tuned engine that purrs away inside.
This limited edition is available exclusively at The Hour Glass.

Perrelet Launches In House Caliber - Alternance 10 (A10)
The driving force behind self-sufficiency
August 6, 2012 (New York) - Rising Swiss manufacturing power, Perrelet, a pioneer of mechanical watchmaking, proudly shares the long-awaited launch of their state-of-the-art Alternance 10 (A10) caliber. The Perrelet brand has taken a decisive step on the path towards autonomous production with keen sights to equip their entire range of offerings with in house Manufacture-made movements.
Since the brand's inception in 1777, Perrelet has been best known as the brand attributed with the creation of the self-winding watch. In 2004, Perrelet was purchased by Spanish entrepreneur Miguel Rodriguez, owner of The Festina Group, the Group to which Perrelet belongs. It's with the Group's dynamic industrial infrastructure (through relationships with sister companies such as Soprod, IMM Ineltec, MHVJ and Astral) that Perrelet has access to exclusive automatic movements of superior quality and thus propels the brand closer to achieving industrial self sufficiency.
"Today more than ever, having in house means of developing and producing horological specialties represents a great opportunity. Production autonomy is an extremely important issue and an aspect that enables us to remain in the avant-garde of our field. Witness the recent acceleration we have undertaken in diversifying the Double Rotor modules. The A10 movement represents a milestone achievement for us; we are well on the way towards complete independence" says CEO Fausto Salvi.

The A10 caliber, produced entirely within The Festina Group, features:
A new escapement featuring optimized efficiency and balance spring.
An automatic 11 ½''' movement, beating at 28,800 vph. Robust and reliable it has earned Chronofiable* certification and which may, on request, also benefit from COSC chronometer certification.
Several variations - three hands plus date, three hands with visible balance, along with skeletonized models.
A broad range of additional functions which to date includes Large Dates, Dual Time-Zone with day-night indicator, Power Reserve, 24-hour indicator, Chronograph and Small Seconds.
The A10 also incorporates custom-made complications and in particular Perrelet's signature Double Rotor modules.
Among the watches in the collection, the first Perrelet watch equipped with the new A10 movement is the Peripheral Double Rotor, the latest of the Double Rotor models. A series of personalized finishes further enhance the 100% Manufacture-made movement. The upper rotor, which rotates around the periphery of the movement, features three openings providing an opportunity to admire its oscillations. The open worked lower rotor provides a broader view of the brand's distinctive "tapestry" motif adorning the bridges. It is adorned with the P signature and a Côtes de Genève motif. This step heralded the start of what is set to be a fast paced integration process. Alternance 10 will equip all the new models launched in 2012, and will in due course replace all the other calibers used by the House.

Perrelet is continuing to write new chapters in its own history and in that of watchmaking in general, as the producer of watches with fully Manufacture-made movements, enhanced by dedicated Fine Watchmaking finishes. Caliber A10 brings the assurance of freedom of action that is fundamental in supporting the creativity it consistently demonstrates in its chosen field of automatic movements.
